Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu makes a great family pet. He has long hair which does not shed. But as with any non-shedding dog, he needs grooming. His big dark eyes and round head keeps him looking young. He is very affectionate, and although still a member of the AKC Toy Group, is a little larger and more sturdy than the tiny Maltese or Yorkie. Although young children should always be gentle with puppies, the Shih Tzu can adapt easier in a family situation. AKC SHOW STANDARD has his weight between 9 and 16 pounds.
